Off to a good start

There were questions how long it would take some UND athletic programs to become competitive when they moved to Division I.

There is no definitive answer and one won't be coming for a while.

But there certainly can't be many complaints about the opening weekend of UND's second Division I season.

The Sioux volleyball team won the title at the Best Western Sycamore Classic in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday by posting wins against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Akron. On Friday, the Sioux beat host Indiana State and Missouri-Kansas City.

The most UND trailed in any of its four matches was five points.

On Friday, the UND soccer team beat Northern Iowa 3-1, a win that snapped a two-game losing streak against the Panthers of the Missouri Valley Conference.

  1. Nice start to the 2009-2010 athletic season. A win at Texas Tech would really get things moving. Go out and shock the world, guys.

    GO SIOUX!!!

  2. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Akron. On Friday, the Sioux beat host Indiana State and Missouri-Kansas City.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ that’s D1? embarassing.

No way und stays competitive in D1.

  3. RT,
You forgot to add that two of those teams play in the greatest FCS conference ever put together, along with the school you (lakes) cheer for, the only school to EVER successfully transition to that level.

    the frenched

  4. lakes hasnt been on any board all weekend, he was actually at the “LAKES” probably getting more poontang then your whole school combined.

u guys really need to quick thinking everyone is him.

  5. UMKC is just in the summit, not MVFC.

Indiana State has lost 17 in a row and lost to a NAIA school, so I can see the similarity to UND for them. you’re right.

  6. Why did UND go DI after they said they we’re just fine in DII? I don’t get it. Are there any bystanders with answers?

  7. rt again, I think you changed sports on what was originally stated—-Dum-ass.

  8. If Roger had any vision, the whole NCC would be DIAA right now. what an idiot.

  9. You are absolutely correct, but I am not sure it was all RT’s decision. With any vision at all, UND and USD would have moved with the other schools. It was short sighted for sure, but maybe Kupchella’s experience in Missouri made him gunshy. Doubt very much if Mankato, St Cloud, or UMD would have moved up. Minnesota as a state does not provide enough funding I am told, to the existing levels of the programs. Also, U of M would not welcome the loss of being the only Dl program in the state. Certainly if UNC could do it, UND, USD, and UNO seemingly could also with their fan bases. NDSU and SDSU have set a solid precedent.

  10. no. colo is probably the worst D1 program in D1 athletics. but I can see the similarities already in grand forks *sigh*
