The Great West Conference announced Tuesday that the winner of the league's postseason men's basketball tournament will receive an automatic bid to the CollegeInsider.com tournament.

The CollegeInsider.com tournament made its debut last season, with Old Dominion beating Bradley in the championship game.

The first round is set for March 16. The title game will be televised by Fox College Sports on March 30.

The Great West tournament is scheduled for Utah Valley State, beginning March 10.

UND, South Dakota, Chicago State, Houston Baptist, New Jersey Tech, Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley will play in the inaugural Great West tournament.

  1. are you telling me that the UND SPRING THAW TOURNAMENT WONT HAVE AN AUTOMATIC BID TO THIS?

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. We are in the Summit League. That is what the coaches told me when I verballed. I have no idea what the Great West Conference is. I was told we could go to the Big Dance. What is up with this??? Come clean coaches.

  3. Burgandy, why don’t you crawl back into your parents basement and ask your mom if she will make you another meat sandwich? Then maybe you and Sam H. can play World of Warcraft. Then in the morning you can make your annual trip to the fargodome to purchase your bison football playoff tickets.

  4. I’ll stroll though campus at NDSU and stop by the trophy case and take a look at those 8 National Championship trophies. They look pretty good.

  5. Better bring a dust rag.

  6. Yes, there are quite a few of them. It would be easy to keep up on the dusting if NDSU only had 1. UND’s must be pretty clean.

  7. Good comeback dork.

  8. Texting all the recruits on UND’s list, giving em the real scoop.

  9. What about our auto bid to the Spring-Thaw? That is the most exciting year end tournament in the country and almost filled the Betty up half way. Of course this is moral victory for UND (wink wink).

  10. Honestly, Lakes your are one true idiot. If you send even one text to prospective Bison or Sioux recruit that’s an NCAA infraction. If you start making them to multiple recruits then you’re getting in to major infraction territory. You are by far one of the dumbest Bison fans around.

  11. Lakesbison has never used that name when posting here before: certainly he wouldn’t post something so stupid. He’s got in trouble with NDSU and Fargodome personnel yesterday, so perhaps he’s gone from posting altogether.

  12. lakes owns everyone, he don’t need to text.

    he gets everything he wants

  13. is this tournament a garnish for the prestigious and legendary “Spring Thaw”, a favorite event for basketball fans everywhere in northern North Dakota, or does it replace that storied event?

    Thanks in advance.

  14. Welcome to the board question, and a good question it is! Whats going to happen to the Spring Thaw tournament is all the buzz up here in Grand Forks. Everybody is talking about it and everybody is concerned.

To lose the prestigious Spring Thaw Tournament would have a negative economic impact on the region. Everyone knows we have to do better with economic impact because of the Alerus Center. Right now Grand Forks taxpayers are forking over almost $2 for every $.50 in economic impact.

Even though it would be cheaper to skip the event and take an amount equal to the expected losses and distribute it directly to the business the event is supposed to help, the event is necessary because there is a new cash flow to pay “other” expenses.

We are expecting a decision on the Spring Thaw soon. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it still has a role to play.

On a side note I understand Dr. Fasion is beside himself with excitement because NDSU said the might consider a tentative date to review the chances of UND playing NDSU in a minor sport! What a break for us here in the Grand Cities. Good Luck to Dr. Fasion in his enlightened endeavor to undue UNDs past mistakes and get back on the schedules of NDSU. Our program really needs those games.
