Thursday practice

UND couldn't have asked for better weather this week as it prepares for Saturday's title showdown at UC Davis.

The Sioux practiced at Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in ideal conditions for November.

UND's health was an issue early in the week but everyone practiced Thursday and there should be no starter left behind when the Sioux board their charter flight Friday morning.

Road teams in the Great West Conference this season have won only one of eight league games. UC Davis is the only Great West team to win on the road this season, that win coming by one point in overtime at South Dakota.

More on the Great West Conference and the travel situations league teams face in Friday's Herald.

  1. wow, lose to an NAIA team, win by 6 over a 2-6 NAIA team and you still think you have a shot at a title, seriously? well, at least you guys dont have to fly into a different town and ride a bus 5 hours to a game like cal poly in grand forks.

  2. The playoff elgible Bison were oh so close to the playofffs. If it hadn’t been for those 7 losses. That God for Wagner Tech and winless Western Illinois. You Bison fans must be very proud. Go ahead and sit back and enjoy it. You deserve it. Good luck this week against Valpo. Oh wait I mean Indiana State.

  3. yea, 3 top 10 teams is same as NAIA.

  4. UND makes all of its athletics, and dont forget athletics is why we are the second largest higher learning institution in the state, better by bashing NDSU. Problem is we do stink and we play in a 4 team conference (couldn’t help but laugh). We did lose to Sioux Falls, we did struggle with the Raiders, Cal Poly did have a terrible bus ride just like USD. Dont worry though the Coach will start putting the screws to a few players, bulk em up fast (wink, wink) and get them on the field where they belong. We may be #2 or worse in everything else but we are the #1 athletic factory in North Dakota.

  5. Careful LOL. All we have is solid circumstantial evidence for steroid use at UND. 2 football players exhibiting classical violent behavioral problems symptomatic of steroid use is just that: circumstantial.

We should be testing in our hockey program and football programs, maybe all sports, and make the tests public to reassure financial supporters the steroid use is limited to a couple players or none at all.

  6. Wayne, did we have any early signing day signatures?

  7. Are we drug testing our recruits for steroids and other abuses. Thanks for the heads up BB.

  8. whoa, we dont talk about basketball recruits, the one kid we signed Aaron Anderson had offers & took visits to Crookston, Bemidji and Duluth. Whew, coach jones sure got the screws into him!!

  9. people, its hard to win a 4 team conference, i for one dont know whats harder. NAIA teams at Alerus or making teams bus in 5 hours from minneapolis after a 3 hour flight from california. whew, well, moral victories are always a good thing.

  10. The bus ride was up to Poly. It was done for economic reasons. It’s no excuse for our loss up at GF. We simply played our absolute worst. Definitely an embarassing loss for our program.

  11. Dont you guys know we are playing for a D1 Title? Remember how proud we all were when NDSU won the GWC in football? It was good for all of North Dakota. Now, and I cant really believe it yet, we are playing for the same title. Without a doubt this is UNDs “Sioux-per Bowl”!!! Hope I dont wake up too soon!!!

Here we are, night before the biggest game in UND football history. Do any of you guys have anything planned for tomorrow? Are there any cute personal interest stories like brothers or something playing on each team. That was so fun to find out about the baseball teams.

Gee Wayne, thanks for the blog. You are really on top of things with all the insight. Couldn’t have asked for better weather! wow, thanks.

Well guys, lets hope for the best because we are the best, It doesn’t get any better than this.

On a side note Coach is really doing a great job recruiting. He works with screwdriver in hand! Cant help but laugh at that one. Bulk em up coach, in a hurry, before we wake up from this dream that is D1 football!!!!

We got a couple of pro prospects on our team. NFL is looking for those diamonds in the rough you know. This is the place for that, for sure. We dont have any standouts, only under coached talent of questionable ability. NFL could be busy for a while looking for diamonds in the rough here.

Well, to all you fellow sophisticated fans, you know the ones too smart to attend UND football games because we have hockey, lets go! Lets win our “Sioux-per Bowl”!!

Who does Sioux Falls have this week?

    Thanks in advance guys! :)

  12. Hey, all this talk bout the Sioux having an actual championship game to play in has me feeling a little left out. Don’t forget the Bison are facing the mighty Sycamores. Even though they suck just as bad as we do and the only win we have is against a team that is worse than both of us. You don’t need to feel so high and mighty just becauseyou could win the same conference we did just a few short years ago and now we are bad-mouthing it. Don’t worry, we will prevail because we are the Mighty Bison and once upon a time people were scared of us, so I’m told. If we don’t, we will blame the officiating or the weather or all the injuries that only happen to us or, maybe we will just keep losing and belittle all the other teams in the area to make us feel better. Anyway, I’m sure we will win and you will lose and Bison fans will still talk a better game than we play. Better go now, Mommy told me to go to bed a long time ago. Gooooo Bison!!!!

  13. what’s the latest juicy gossip on the nickname, you know the ‘school’s boss’?

  14. Put the screws to some kids coach, bulk em up (wink, wink) and lets get going!!!

Too bad we spent all that time belittling NDSU, the GWC and the Summit. It sort of leaves a bad taste in the mouth when we all try and make something out of it now. None of the GWC teams are even ranked in the top 25. That gives you an idea of where we are at. Thank goodness for the 24 million that will be watching this contest on TV or this game would go unnoticed. Also, I think its important that we always measure our success against NDSU. UND can get a lot taller by hitting NDSU on the head. I think we have proven that.

  15. Well, it dawned cool and clear. The air seems thick but that could be the excitement football fans are feeling coast to coast about this, the championship day!!! We have our “Sioux-per” Bowl today. Biggest game ever. Last night when we were passing the Sioux-per shot glass somebody said Coach had already ordered the championship rings. This is an established conference and you cant help but feel a lot of gratitude toward NDSU. They started this entire thing and now here we are, as unbelievable as it may seem, on the verge of winning our first D1 conference title in what has to be one of the most respected conferences in the FCS. Any of you guys going down to the stadium early? If so lets get together and talk about how great this football team, and head coach, really are. See you there! Lets all have a big party when we get back to Title Town!!!

  16. Dont you know that UND football fans are too sophisticated to go to games because we have hockey? Get with it, you are embarrassing all of us sophisticates.

  17. I remember how great it was for North Dakota when NDSU beat the Gophers. Remember how all of us at UND cheered them on?

I remember how exciting it was when NDSU announced they were moving up to D1. Remember how we supported them and dreamed one day that it might be UND making that impossible move?

I remember how we relished the chance to play NDSU because they were going to be a D1 team and UND plays anybody, anytime, anywhere.

Remember how we all cheered the Bison on when they beat FBS teams Central Michigan and Ball State? Remember how we all dreamed one day that we would join NDSU in the Great West Conference and how we admired that conference and the Summit league?

I remember and now expect that all of North Dakota is cheering UND on. You get what you give and we gave so much admiration and respect to NDSU for their move up that Im sure they are doing the same thing for UND.

  18. What kind of conference has a team competing for the championship that allows over 400 yards/game? Is this a cruel joke designed to humiliate us? You know like trying to vote Muzz in for some kind of coach of the year. Winning this thing, with the team we have, would be an embarrassment of folly.

  19. Ah the memories. I admit I felt bad when Smokin Joe pronounced the AC “too good” for Div. II and da Bizon abandoned the NCC for the big time. But we’ve always had such good support from NDSU that I secretly cheered along with them. I was all jacked up for that “first Division I” game with Valpro. They have a storied tradition and I’m sure a lot of scholarships, so I was amazed when da Bizon won big. I carried on for weeks back in ’07 when they snuck by the Gophers. I don’t recall for sure but didn’t that team go to the Rose Bowl?
I’ve been hurt that Bizon fans have moved up, moved on and forgotten all about us. It’s been soooo long since we’ve heard from them. Where are they anyway?
And I admit I’m worried we’ll never catch up with them now; it was so hard to compete with them before they ran off — I mean moved up. And I know our football coaches can never hope to match the amazing expertise demonstrated weekly by Mr. Clean and his posse of football geniuses.

  20. I miss them, truth hurts dont it!!! put the screws to them!!!!!!!!

  21. Whats the recruiting situation does “The Screwdriver” have any pre commits?

  22. bball team is solid this year huh

  23. Im not sure if you are talking about the UND boys or girls team 0-3, but I think the girls lost tonight to a good Wyoming Cowboys team.

AS far AS football goes, if the screwdriver can get a few kids to go our way they can be as good as the basketball team. The BB team scored 60 tonight (almost anyways), and thats not the NCC my brother!
