Jake gets contract extension
After Northern Iowa stunned Kansas last week to reach the Sweet 16, it didn't take UNI long to work out a contract extension for coach Ben Jacobson.
The school and Jacobson, a former UND player and assistant coach, have agreed to a new 10-year deal that includes a substantial pay raise.
The school announced Wednesday that Jacobson’s annual salary will be $450,000 starting next season, with annual raises of $25,000 throughout the length of the contract that runs through 2020.
Jacobson’s old contract paid him $289,300 per year and ran through 2016.
With a number of big-time programs now in the market for a head coach, Jacobson quickly became a hot commodity.
Jacobson and his UNI Panthers received a lot of national media attention this week. The Panthers are featured on the cover of this week's Sports Illustrated.
We'll have a story on Jacobson in Friday's Herald.
