The UND athletic department isn't too happy with Radio Fargo-Moorhead after Tuesday's announcement that Sioux football and hockey games will no longer be carried on the company's flagship station - KFGO (The Mighty 790).
Radio Fargo-Moorhead terminated its contract with UND to carry North Dakota State football and basketball games for the next six years.
Radio Fargo-Moorhead officials say it was a business decision.
Now, UND will be looking for a Fargo-Moorhead radio home for Sioux football and hockey.
WDAY-AM (970) seems to be the logical choice, but UND officials have not said where they want Sioux football and hockey games to be heard in the F-M metro area starting this fall.
The decision to drop UND did not sit well with Sioux athletic officials.
UND atheltic director Brian Faison released this statement Tuesday afternoon:
“We find it unfortunate that Radio Fargo-Moorhead has decided to terminate our agreement.
“This has been a long-standing, 17-year relationship that has benefitted both parties and to have it end in this manner is disappointing. From our standpoint, the most unfortunate aspect is that we were never given the opportunity to negotiate in an effort to continue our relationship and were given only two hours advance notice on today’s announcement.”
“I want to assure our thousands of loyal fans and alumni that listen to Fighting Sioux hockey and football games in the Fargo area that we will have a strong radio presence in the metropolitan area. An announcement will be forthcoming.”
