Yotes make decision
South Dakota is expected to announce its conference intentions Thursday at noon.
No one is saying a word tonight (Wednesday). Speculation, however, is that South Dakota will honor its Summit League commitment.
As for football, there could be something in the works for South Dakota with the Missouri Valley Football Conference. If that's true, the Coyotes have turned down the invitation from the Big Sky. How that plays out for UND will be the question that needs to be addressed Thursday.
Things appear to be a lot different than they were Monday when the Big Sky accepted UND, Southern Utah and said it South Dakota had an offer on the table from the league.
Should be an interesting Thursday.

Will the Big Sky attempt to add another school in the region to take USD’s place?

Will UND try and back out of the Big Sky and get the deal USD got from the Summit League and the MVFC?
November 4th, 2010 - 16:59
Highly unlikely that UND will try for the Summit. Big Sky remains a very good deal for UND.

I’m sure NDSU fans would hate that, but it would be an ideal situation. Is it possible the MVFC would make such an offer to UND?

not possible, UND burned the bridge with the Summit.
Go with what we have. This should have been in stone before signing with the BSC that USD was going to the BSC. USD also burned alot of bridges. Looks like a good time to be in the bridge business.

What’s the point of a staff blog when the staff doesn’t contribute to the conversation?

Let’s say I am a recruit from rural Minn, SD, ND, Iowa, Wisc etc. Do I want to ride a bus to Carbondale, Brookings, Cedar Falls, Fargo etc.? Or do I want to expand my horizon and travel the country a little, see the world so to speak, of the Western US states and cities. I probably, not always because of family travel to watch etc., would pick the school that offers me the bigger experience. It may be an advantage to UND to not have to compete with USD for talent. Time will tell.

I think that the exposure UND will get by being in the BSC will open up recruiting doors NDSU, SDSU, and USD could only dream about. Think about many talented football players in California, Arizona, Idaho, Washington, and Montana will now find UND a more attractive option.

In fairness to our XDSU friends, they are already recruiting out west in CA, AZ, etc. What I’m most excited about is the additional exposure the program will have going out west. There aren’t a whole lot of FCS teams in the west so there may be some room to grab some media exposure in some of the country’s best markets such as Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, etc. That in turn will help with recruiting.
With great risk comes great opportunity, right?

Couldn’t agree more with LAS. I’m excited to see the start of something new, especially after having to grind out the transition period when a person would have to google the team that was coming to GF just to find out where they were from! Montana and Montana State are no brainers, then throw in the rivalries that UND has established with quality programs such as Cal-Poly, UC Davis (back to D2 days) and Southern Utah…good things to come. GO SIOUX!
